At McLennan Street Dental, we believe every patient deserves to benefit from a healthy, beautiful smile. Our state-of-the-art dental technology and caring attitude will help you take care of your mouth and maintain your natural teeth for life.

We recommend a dental check-up every six months for a thorough examination, whether you have any dental problems or not. Prevention is better than cure and often dental problems can be addressed before they cause any discomfort. Along with regular check-ups, a professional scale and clean will help to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy.

During your check-up, we will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, looking for signs of decay, broken and worn teeth, plaque, and swollen or bleeding gums. We also screen for oral cancer.

If necessary, we will also take digital x-rays of your teeth to make sure we are thoroughly examining your teeth and gums.  If there are any problems that are detected, we will let you know what treatment is required and provide you with a treatment plan and cost estimates.

Tips for preventive dental care

Here are some tips from our dentists for healthy gums and teeth.

  • Brush twice a day and floss at least once. Use a soft toothbrush with rounded bristles to minimise excessive abrasion. Replace the toothbrush every three months. Children’s toothbrushes usually need to be replaced more often (every 2 months).
  • Eat a healthy diet that is low in refined sugars. Eating right can help you fend off gingivitis, periodontal disease, and plaque.
  • Visit us for a dental check-up at least every six months. This will allow us to assess your smile and oral health, and to also clean any food debris and plaque that you have not been able to remove by brushing and flossing.
  • Visit us for a dental check-up at least every six months. This will allow us to assess your teeth, gums and overall oral health. A regular clean to remove any plaque and tartar build up is important for gum health and we can let you know where you’re missing out with your cleaning.
  • Visit us immediately if you notice any signs of inflammation, bleeding, or pain. Get gum disease identified and treated before it becomes severe.
  • Avoid cigarettes and other tobacco products. As well as being linked to cancer smoking is the main risk factor for gum disease.
